Name: Nymphadora Andromeda Tonks
Name meaning: A "nymph" is a minor divinity of nature in Greek and Roman mythology represented as beautiful maidens dwelling in the mountains, forests, trees, and waters.
Nicknames: Tonks, Nymph. She only accepts Tonks, but a few think it's rather funny to call her "Nymph" or "Nymphadora," her first name.
Birth date: April 4, 1973

Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and governs the head. Career: Auror for the Ministry, Kingsley Shacklebolt was her mentor. Tonks is also a member of the Order of the Phoenix and the Advanced Guard.

Tonks at Hogwarts.
Tonks attended Hogwarts from 1984 to 1991. She was in Hufflepuff house, never became a Prefect, and was somewhat of a trouble maker. Despite her behavior, however, she was a VERY good student. You had to be a good student to become an Auror. Tonks' favorite class was Defense Against the Dark Arts. It always was her favorite, though she always excelled in Charms. While at Hogwarts, she played Chaser from her third to seventh year for Hufflepuff Quidditch team.

First Impression: Tonks is rather bubbly and cheerful most of the time, so that's how you'd see her before Sirius' death. After Sirius died, she seemed to look more tired, wary and sad. She lost some of her abilities to change her appearance at will, so her mousy brown hair and tired face usually shows.
Quirks/Habits: changes hair all the time when able to, tends to say "Wotcher" a lot.
Likes: Remus Lupin, being an Auror, being a Metamorphmagus, music, chewing gum.
Dislikes: people who put emphasis on bloodlines, mean people.
Appreciates: good music, chewing gum when she most needs it, Quidditch.

Random Facts about Tonks.
Tonks is the daughter of Sirius Black's favorite cousin, Andromeda, who married a Muggle-born wizard, Ted Tonks. Andromeda was removed from the tapestry of the Black family tree as a result of her marriage (so Kreacher does not feel the need to obey her even though she is family). That means that Tonks' aunts are Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Black, whether any of them wants to admit it or not.

While at Hogwarts, Tonks was not made a Prefect. She said that it was because she lacked certain "necessary qualities," specifically the ability to behave herself. However, she must have been a very capable student in spite of her fondness for mischief, since becoming an Auror requires high marks in many subjects. After leaving Hogwarts in the summer of 1988, Tonks had to undergo an additional three years of training to become an Auror, only qualifying a year ago (summer of 1994).

Tonks is a Metamorphmagus, which means that she can change her appearance at will. She uses this ability in service to the Order, but it also helped her qualify as an Auror ("I got top marks in Concealment and Disguise during Auror training without any study at all, it was great."). However, she is very clumsy and she had more difficulty with Stealth and Tracking.

During the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Tonks fired spells down on the Death Eaters in the Death Room, but was hit by a spell and injured severely. She recovered from her wounds after a stay in St. Mungo's. She was sufficiently healed to join Mad-Eye and Lupin on the platform in King's Cross as they met Harry from the train.

However, a few months later when Harry meets her at the Burrow, it is clear that Tonks is extremely unhappy. She has let her hair go a mousy brown, and looks "drawn, even ill." Harry at first supposes that she is distraught over Sirius' death but finds out later that she has fallen in love with Remus Lupin.
